The Museo del Jurásico de Asturias (MUJA) occupies the coastal platform of San Telmo, halfway between Colunga and Lastres, and opened on 31 March 2004. Its building, designed by architect Rufino García Uribelarrea, takes the outer form of the mould of a three-toed dinosaur footprint, and inside a wooden structure of arches evokes the ribs of a huge animal.
The visit is organised into three main areas, one for each period of the Mesozoic: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. The main collection brings together some 8,000 fossils from the Asturian Jurassic, and the museum offers about 2,000 m² of exhibition space with skeletons, replicas and footprints, plus a garden with dinosaur reproductions.
