Playa de la Palmera is the urban beach of Candás, the capital of the Carreño municipality. It lies at the foot of the seafront promenade, which runs along it to the harbour, and continues without a break the sand of the fishing port itself; it measures about 240 metres of golden sand. It is a safe urban beach with moderate waves, and it is usually very busy in summer. At one end rises the rocky outcrop of La Farola, which fishermen once used as a lookout.
Plaza de La Baragaña, for its part, is right in the centre of Candás, and the Carreño tourist office is located there.
