The Casa de Cultura Palacio de Omaña occupies a 16th-century palace in the centre of the town of Cangas del Narcea, beside the Basilica of Santa María Magdalena. Its facade, altered at various times, retains a round-arched doorway and a window with Plateresque carving, and the interior is arranged around a columned courtyard. The building was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1981. After buying it from its former owners, the town council restored it and opened it to the public in May 2009 as a cultural centre. Today it brings together the public library, exhibition halls, an auditorium, study rooms, the tourist office, the youth information office and other municipal services.
