Parque Les Conserveres is a public park in Candás, in the municipality of Carreño, with a name that recalls the town’s canning past. During the 19th century, abundant fish catches made Candás a strategic centre for the canning industry, and many factories chose to set up there.
The park is home to the Permanent Exhibition of the Canning Industry of Candás, opened in 2006 and housed in the cistern that belonged to the former Bernardo Alfageme canning and cider factory. The exhibition brings together original pieces and models that trace the town’s canning history. Since 1998 the park has also hosted a mural by Benigno Menéndez Navarro that evokes that same canning past.
