About this venue

Teatro Palacio Valdés is the historic theatre of Avilés, run by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura of the city council. It was designed by the architect Manuel del Busto in a neo-baroque and modernist style; construction began in August 1900 and it opened in 1920, named after the writer Armando Palacio Valdés.

After a period of decline it closed in 1972 and was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1982. Restoration work began in 1987, lasted five years, and the theatre reopened on 14 November 1992. It seats around 750 people and its stalls can be levelled with the stage.
