The Casa Municipal de Cultura de Avilés is a municipal facility, planned after the city council decided in the 1980s to build a new cultural centre to meet the growing cultural demand of Avilés residents. The building, of about 5,000 m², stands out for an avant-garde design with two clearly distinct facades; in the lobby, glass panels connect the space with the first floor, which makes notable use of natural light.

It has a book lending service, as well as study rooms and reading rooms for both adults and children. For activities it has a 677-seat auditorium, a 108-seat conference room, an exhibition hall and a meeting room.
