The Auditorio de la Casa de Cultura is part of the Casa Municipal de Cultura in Avilés, a building of about 5,000 m² that the city council decided to build in the 1980s. The project came from a public competition won by the architects José Luis Arana and Mará Aroca, and the building stands on the site once occupied by old schools.
The auditorium has 677 seats. The building also has a 108-seat conference room, an exhibition room, a meeting room for societies and reading rooms for adults and children, with a book lending service. Its facade on Plaza Álvarez Acebal is made of stone with modern bay windows, while the one facing Ferrera park has an avant-garde design: the project aimed to link the city centre with that park.
