About this venue
Villaverde is a village and parish in the municipality of Allande, in western Asturias. The village lies at about 700 metres above sea level, on the left bank of the Abaniella river, some 11 km from Pola de Allande, the municipal capital. The parish groups six settlements, among them Abaniella, Lantigo and El Valle.
The village is home to the church of San Juan Bautista, an example of Asturian rural Romanesque: it has a semi-open L-shaped cabildo (porch) and a two-opening bell gable on the end wall, and a commemorative plaque on the west doorway dates the cabildo’s construction to 1713.
