With the unstoppable magnetism of James Brown, the psychedelia of Parliament-Funkadelic and Sly Stone, the audacity of Labelle, and the political impetus of the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti, funk became a universal language of freedom and resistance.
Between electric riffs and contagious grooves, the film also shows how it marked the evolution of new wave and hip-hop, forever transforming popular music. Rhythm, sweat, endorphins, fashion, celebration, and racial consciousness merge in a story where joy is a weapon of change.
