About the exhibition

Throughout the entire period that the Convivium exhibition is open to the public, guided tours will be held, covering the different parts of the display: the appetizer, the menu, shopping and the pantry, the kitchen, the table, and the after-dinner conversation.

Convivium. Archaeology of the Mediterranean Diet immerses us in the historical and current significance of this Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which brings together a set of knowledge, practices, rituals, traditions, and symbols related to crops and harvests, fishing, and animal husbandry, as well as the ways of preserving, transforming, cooking, sharing, and consuming food.

Details

  • Motto: The act of eating together, one of the foundations of the cultural identity of Mediterranean communities.
  • Content: The exhibition explores how the Mediterranean diet has been built over time, from Prehistory to the present day, with special emphasis on its cultural and social aspects and the latest archaeological research.
  • Local focus: The exhibition looks out over the Cantábrico, pausing at the particularities of this region and dedicating a space to the Asturian cider culture.
