Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, the oldest professional dance company in the Netherlands, presents “La Mer”, a creation by Nanine Linning, in the Sala Principal of Baluarte in Pamplona, as part of the Fundación Baluarte 26-27 Main Season. This is the Spanish premiere of the new expanded version and one of only two performances scheduled in the country in 2026.
Inspired by Claude Debussy’s 1905 musical score “La Mer”, the piece premiered in 2023 in collaboration with the Boston Ballet and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The expanded version, premiered on October 9 in Rotterdam, incorporates scenes about rising sea levels, plastic pollution, oil spills, and oxygen depletion in the oceans.
