Our Lady of Carmen - The Discharge. Cangas del Narcea
Each July 16th, the locality of Cangas del Narcea hosts the famous Discharge in honor of the Virgin of Carmen, one of the most revered in all of Asturias.
The day begins with the Solemn Mass in the Chapel of Carmen, to continue with the Ascent Procession, and the tirades begin at the charge of the different peñas.
The Main Mass is celebrated, in the Basilica of St. Mary Magdalene, and then the party begins with the pasacalles, fanfares, and charangas.
In the afternoon, the Procession of Carmen takes place, and after the Virgin arrives at the center of the Roman Bridge, the Discharge begins; the sky is filled with fireworks and gunpowder for several minutes. In a clear tribute from the Cangas peñas to the Virgin and those who are no longer with us. The feeling is indescribable, you have to participate and live it, because it’s a unique event.
The Discharge is part of the festivals of El Carmen and La Magdalena.
