Round table: The commodification of Universities. How education is becoming a business

Are you interested in knowing what is happening with education in our region? I invite you to participate in this round table where we will analyze the impact of the arrival of private universities in Asturias and how this model is transforming the current educational landscape. 🎓

The meeting will take place on May 20, 2026 at 19:00 in the lobby of the 2nd floor of the Antigua Escuela de Comercio in Gijón. It is an opportunity open to the general public to reflect together on this highly relevant topic.

About the debate

The Encuentros working group of the Ateneo Obrero de Gijón organizes this space to delve into education understood as a business. Through a transversal and critical look, we will seek answers to key questions:

• Who funds these universities?
• Why have they chosen Asturias for their arrival?
• What are the consequences of the dismantling of the public university for our society?
• What solutions exist for the inequalities generated by this model?
