This socio-cultural education program brings Asturian culture to all audiences through the experience of traditional apple crushing (mayar). Using miniature cider presses (llagares), participants will discover the secrets of cider production in a practical and participatory way. 🍎
What the activity consists of
During the 60 minutes that the workshop lasts, attendees will carry out the following tasks:
- Assembly: Putting together the 36 pieces that make up the llagar.
- Production: Crushing the apples with wooden mallets (mayos) and pressing the mixture to obtain must, which can be tasted on the spot. 🥤
- Learning: Getting to know the parts of the llagar and the apple varieties used.
- Completion: Disassembling the llagar, observing the state of the pomace (magaya), and collecting seeds to grow an apple tree at home. 🌳
The activity is a unique opportunity to connect with the cider tradition of Asturias in a direct way.
