About the event

The Desarme Gastronomic Festival is one of the most emblematic and traditional celebrations in Oviedo, declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest. Every October 19, the city immerses itself in this historical commemoration that has its roots in the First Carlist War of 1836.

The festivity commemorates the moment when troops loyal to the Constitution managed to defend the city, being treated to an “extraordinary meal.” Over time, this tradition evolved into a popular banquet that, since the end of the 19th century, has been promoted by the restaurateurs of Oviedo.

The undisputed star of this day is the Desarme Menu, a traditional dish consisting of chickpea stew with cod or pollock, which is served in numerous establishments throughout the city, making Oviedo an essential gastronomic meeting point.
