The Asturcón Festival 2026

La Majada de Espineres, in the Sierra del Sueve, celebrates a new edition of the Fiesta del Asturcón, an event declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest dedicated to the conservation of this native equine breed. Organized by the Asociación Conservadora de Asturcones del Sueve (ACAS), the day combines livestock tradition, popular culture, and music in a mountain setting.

Activity program 🐎

• 10:00 a.m. 11th Children’s drawing contest about the asturcón and its environment.
• 10:05 a.m. Dragging exhibition with asturcón horses.
• 12:30 p.m. Field mass in memory of deceased members, collaborators, and supporters, followed by regional dance contests, brass bands, and bagpipe bands.
• 1:30 p.m. Institutional acts presented by Luis María Morago Rodríguez “Chusmi”, with the opening speech by Iván Allende, mayor of Piloña, and the presentation of awards.
• 2:30 p.m. Traditional brotherhood meal and mountain picnic.
• 4:00 p.m. Asturian folk song: “From the Sueve to the world”, with a performance by Vicente Prado “El Pravianu”.
• 5:00 p.m. Horse marking, riding, and training show, including the marking of the asturcones born in 2026.

Notable awards 🏅

During the institutional acts, the following distinctions will be presented:

• Asturcón of the Year: Alfredo Canteli, mayor of Oviedo.
• Rural Woman: María Luisa Fernández Toraño.
• Shepherd of Cereceda: Isidro Cueto Fernández.
• Recognized entities: Transinsa, Metálicas Torca, and Quesería Artesanal Callechi.

Important information ⚠️

To ensure the smooth running of the day, please keep the following rules in mind:

• It is forbidden to tie horses to the hawthorn bushes (les espineres), light fires, and park in unauthorized areas.
• Vehicles may not descend before 3:00 p.m.
• Camping will not be allowed during the night of the 21st or during the day on the 22nd in the areas indicated by the organization.
• The organization will have the support of the Civil Protection of Piloña, Local Police, and Civil Guard. ACAS and the farmers of the Sueve are not responsible for any damage that may occur to vehicles parked in the area.
