About the event

Synopsis

La Barraca recounts the rejection faced by the family of Batiste Borrull upon settling in a barraca and on lands in the huerta valenciana from which another family, who had lived and worked there for several generations, was evicted due to non-payment. The local farmers, all of whom are tenant farmers, intend to keep those lands barren as a symbol of power against their landlords. The conflict will grow in intensity until it turns into a tragedy.

The story told by La Barraca is shocking due to the relevance of its characters and their conflicts. It speaks of unjustified rent increases, evictions, child bullying, and the bitter confrontation between natives and immigrants.
