About the event

Would you like to discover the secrets hidden in our wine glasses? I invite you to enjoy a fascinating talk that connects history, archaeology, and winemaking tradition in a unique setting.

This activity, organized by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación y Universidad Popular de Gijón on the occasion of International Museum Day, is a perfect opportunity to learn about vine culture from experts.

The event will take place on May 14, 2026 at 18:30 at the Palacio de Revillagigedo. The activity is free and admission is open until full capacity is reached, so I recommend arriving early.

The meeting 🍷

In a dynamic dialogue format, researchers Carmen Martínez Rodríguez (Misión Biológica de Galicia - CSIC) and Manuel León Bejar (UC- Arqueogastronomía) will explore the vine and wine from the past to the present. The conversation will be structured around four main themes:

  • The recovery and agronomic and oenological potential of ancestral varieties in Andalusia, Asturias, and Galicia.
  • The evolution of cultivation throughout the centuries and the impact of vine diseases in Europe.
  • The importance of human action to ensure the survival of the varieties.
  • The evolution of technological wine production processes, from the Roman era to the Contemporary Age.

It is an ideal plan if you are interested in history, gastronomy, or simply want to spend a different kind of afternoon discovering the legacy held by our vineyards. I hope you enjoy it!
