San Félix and Les Carroces Festivals in Valdesoto

The Fiestas de San Félix de Valdesoto are the great summer event of this parish in the Siero council and are held around the second weekend of August, from Friday, August 7 to Monday, August 10, 2026. They combine devotion to the patron saint with four days of pilgrimage, open-air dances, and neighborhood activities organized by the local clubs and festival societies of the town.

The heart of the festival is «Les Carroces de Valdesoto», the Provincial Float Contest, declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest and held since 1950, when a group of neighbors arrived at the festival with decorated country carts. What began as scenes of Asturian rural life has become a traveling theater: monumental floats built over months by the clubs that parody current political and social events, recreate Asturian mythology, the mines, the sea, literature, or pop culture. The parade starts at 17:00 on Monday the 10th and travels about two kilometers through the town, with the public stationed on both sides of the road. The award-winning floats are usually invited to the Día de América en Asturias, in Oviedo, in September.

The rest of the program includes a rocket launch and opening speech on Friday, a mountain bike ride and open-air dances with orchestras on Saturday, a bagpipe parade through the neighborhoods, a classic vehicle exhibition, a solemn mass with an Asturian choir and the San Félix Trophy on Sunday, and on Monday, a distribution of food and cider for members, a vermouth session, fireworks, and a final open-air dance.

Practical tips. Valdesoto is about 8 km from Pola de Siero and 20 from Oviedo/Gijón. On the day of the parade, the town becomes congested: it is advisable to arrive two or three hours in advance, park in the meadows and designated access areas at the entrance to the town and walk, and find a spot early along the route. There is bar and cider house service at the festival grounds.
