Nuestra Señora de la Salud Festivals in Lieres

The Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de la Salud are the main festivals of Lieres (Llieres), in the council of Siero, and are celebrated every first weekend of August — in 2026, from August 1 to 4. They are organized by the Asociación de Festejos La Salud de Lieres.

What it is. A classic Asturian meadow pilgrimage in an old mining town, with devotion to the Virgin of Health as the religious focus and four days of neighborhood camaraderie, traditional sports, music, and outdoor dining.

Typical events: Opening chupinazo (firecracker) and children’s games; tute, parchís, and bolo palma (Speroni Memorial) tournaments; vermouth session with a gathering of classic cars and motorcycles; solemn mass and procession accompanied by bagpipes; country outing and popular barbecue in the meadow; mass for deceased members and distribution of the bollu (bread roll) on the last day; and nightly verbenas (open-air dances) with Asturian orchestras and groups.

Gastronomy. Barbecue and popular meals, bollu preñáu (chorizo-filled bread roll), and poured natural cider; the distributions to members are one of the hallmarks.

Why it is worth it. It is a festival for neighbors, not for show: authentic atmosphere, without overcrowding, with the added attraction of the mining industrial heritage of Lieres.

Practical tips. Lieres is 8 km from Pola de Siero via the AS-331 and has a Renfe Cercanías station (Oviedo–Infiesto line), the best option if you plan to drink cider. Parking is available on the town streets and nearby fields. The verbenas start late (23:00 or later). Confirm the final program on the social media channels of the Asociación de Festejos, where it is published first.
