Fiesta of the Shepherd in Cangas de Onís
Cangas de Onís hosts La Fiesta del Pastor in the Vega d’Enol, at the foot of the Peña Santa, in the heart of Picos de Europa.
There is an open council, a traditional Asturian institution, which on that day brings together the municipal corporation and the council of shepherds for the distribution of the pastures of the Covadonga mountain. During this meeting, the Mayor Shepherd is chosen. There is also a race in which riders ride bareback, almost wild horses.
