ARCU ATLÁNTICU FESTIVAL. Jira Día d’Asturies in Xixón

The traditional parade for the Día d’Asturies in Xixón travels the path from the Plaza Mayor to the Cerro Santa Catalina, where a day of folklore, traditional games, and gastronomy is celebrated. The event takes place at the Cerro Santa Catalina, Cimavilla.

Program of the day

The day begins with participation and tradition as central themes:

• 11:00: Registration for the “Best presentation of food in the meadow of the jira” contest (categories: tablecloth, basket, and sustainability award).
• 12:00: Traditional parade for the Día d’Asturies in Xixón, from the Plaza Mayor to the Cerro Santa Catalina.
• 13:00: Danza Prima (Danza n’Ambas) with Ramón Villa.
• 13:15: Puya del ramu by the folk group El Xiringüelu and entertainment by Félix Corcuera. The proceeds will go to the soup kitchen.
• Following: Performance of “Gijón del alma” and “Asturias” with Víctor.
• 14:00: Award ceremony for the “Best presentation of food in the meadow of the jira” contest.
• 16:30: Native sports organized by the Escuela de Xuegos Tradicionales 6 Conceyos.

Traditional sports 🏅

During the afternoon, the Escuela de Xuegos Tradicionales 6 Conceyos will host a series of activities that include hoops, stilts, turtle race, bottle fishing, stick pulling, diabolo, the frog game, the key game, tug-of-war, ski race, and milk jug race, among others.
