The Euskadiko Orkestra, conducted by Lucas Macías, presents a program at the Auditorio del Kursaal featuring works by Falla, Debussy and Stravinsky: three perspectives on early 20th-century modernity, with Paris as the epicenter of cultural and aesthetic exchange.
In The Three-Cornered Hat, written for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, Falla transformed Spanish popular rhythms and melodies, such as fandangos, jotas and farrucas, into a highly dynamic ballet full of humor. Debussy, in La mer, avoided explicit narrative to create three “symphonic sketches” that suggest the mutability of the sea. The Firebird, Stravinsky’s first major success, combines the exoticism of a Russian fairy tale with highly refined instrumental writing.
