The geologist José Antonio Sáenz de Santamaría analyzes the real role of fossil fuels and renewable energies in the current economic system. During this session, the scientific director of the G.E.M.P.E./c. breaks down the figures for global energy consumption, where gas, oil, and coal remain the pillars of development compared to the current percentage of solar and wind energy. 🌍

The talk will take place in the Salón de actos Escuela de Comercio.

The speaker, a renowned popularizer of Geology, will provide key data on the reality of our energy dependence:

  • Fossil fuels account for 84% of total global consumption.
  • Electricity accounts for only 16% of global consumption.
  • 40% of electricity is generated with gas and coal, while 20% comes from nuclear power plants.
  • Renewable energies, such as wind and solar, reach 6.4% of global energy consumption following the investments made.
