About the talk
This session, organized by the Foro de Mujeres de El Llano, will feature a presentation by María Socorro Suárez Lafuente, who was a professor of English Philology at the Universidad de Oviedo and co-founder of the Women and Literature Seminar.
During the meeting, we will explore the life of Inés Suárez:
- She was the first Spanish woman to arrive in Chilean territory.
- She accompanied Pedro de Valdivia on the expedition that founded Santiago de Nueva Extremadura in 1541.
- She is remembered as a unique figure, a strategist, and one of the few women recognized in the early stages of colonization.
