TALK: La Isla, origin and core of the Botanical Garden, in its geographical context

About the event

Would you like to discover the secret origin of one of the most special corners of Gijón? I invite you to immerse yourself in the history of La Isla, the historical seed of the Jardín Botánico Atlántico, in a talk that connects our landscape past with current botany.

The event will take place on April 25, 2026 at 17:00 in the sala polivalente of the Jardín Botánico Atlántico de Gijón. Admission is free until full capacity is reached, although keep in mind that spots are limited, so I recommend arriving early. 🌿

A journey through the history of La Isla

This private estate was the setting where, since the 19th century, a unique garden was cultivated, combining exotic and native species in the purest style of Asturian romantic gardens. Today, La Isla functions as a fascinating bridge between the memory of our region and the scientific vocation of the Botanical Garden.

In this session, we will explore how history, geography, and environmental conservation go hand in hand in this space. It is a perfect opportunity to understand how the elegant forms of this garden dialogue with contemporary botanical collections, creating an environment with a truly unique identity. 🌸
