Enjoy this screening of the production by The Australian Ballet, recorded at the Arts Center in Melbourne in September 2018. The production is choreographed by Lucas Jervies, with music by Aram Khachaturian, set and costume design by Jérôme Kaplan, dramaturgy by Imara Savage, and musical direction by Nicolette Fraillon.
This new Spartacus revisits the story of the ancient Roman gladiator who led the slave rebellion against the Empire. Jervies’ choreography emphasizes traditional themes of passion, honor, and revenge, as well as the dynamics and consequences of power structures from a contemporary perspective.
