This lecture series explores the history and influence of Asturians in America during different historical periods.

Lecture program:

  • March 4: From the Colegio Mayor Salmantino de San Salvador in Oviedo to America: the projection of its Asturian students in the Modern Age. Speaker: Mr. Carlos Díaz Santos.
  • March 11: Carlism in America: the Asturian connection through Gonzalo Castañón, Emilio Valenciano, and Nicolás Rivero. Speaker: Mr. José Luis Agudín Menéndez.
  • March 18: Gonzalo Díaz de Piñera, from explorer of the Cinnamon to captain of Gonzalo Pizarro (1538-1545). Speaker: Mr. José María Fernández Díaz-Formentí.
  • March 25: Pedro de Valdés: from the founding of San Agustín de la Florida to Renaissance English literature. Speaker: Mr. Francisco Borge López.
