Agustina, an Argentine actress of Galician origin, travels to the Azores to play The Tempest by William Shakespeare, but upon arrival, there is no trace of the company or the work. After meeting the enigmatic Ariel, she discovers that the representation has already begun: the entire island is a large theater and its inhabitants are characters immersed in a strange spell.
