Archive and repertoire of the Bolero dance (1780-1814). MúAX 2026

About the event

Are you passionate about the history of our dance and want to discover how the iconic bolero tradition was born? I invite you to join us for this interesting lecture where we will explore the rise of the seguidillas and boleros, a phenomenon that captivated society and the most important stages of Madrid between the 18th and 19th centuries. 💃

The event will take place in the Salón de actos de la Biblioteca Pública Jovellanos. It will be a unique opportunity to delve into how written and iconographic sources have allowed for the reconstruction of the choreography of this golden age.

About the speaker

The session will be led by Guadalupe Mera, a prominent expert in the field:

  • Professor of Dance History and Humanities.
  • PhD in Art History and Musicology from the Universidad de Oviedo.
  • Higher Degree in Spanish Dance Pedagogy from the CSDMA.
  • Degree in Choreography and Dance Performance and in Dramatic Art from the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Madrid.

During the meeting, we will review the context of nationalism that drove this art form and remember the great figures who made it possible, such as Pedro de la Rosa, Antonia Molino, and the Medina family. I hope you enjoy this journey into the past through movement! ✨
