Castropol hosts the Alfombras florales del Corpus festival.
The beauty and charm of these flower carpets reside in the colorfulness of the flowers, the narrowness of the streets, and the care of their authors. It is a complex artisanal task that requires designing and measuring the motifs, deciding on colors and materials, until achieving a tapestry on which the Body of Christ under canopy passes, accompanied by children and girls celebrating their First Communion.
This celebration combines ephemeral art, religious fervor, and a deep sense of community. From dawn, dozens of neighbors and neighbors, children and adults alike, work shoulder to shoulder to design and hand-make colorful flower carpets with flowers, seeds, shells, dyed sawdust, and other natural materials. Each creation is unique, and its beauty resides both in the aesthetic care and in the symbolism and collective effort behind it.
