Can you imagine experiencing one of the most vibrant and exciting days of the Asturian summer? The 88th edition of the International Descent of the Sella promises to be, once again, an unforgettable experience full of tradition, sport, and a unique festive atmosphere that you cannot miss.
The event will take place on August 8, 2026. This iconic race, declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, covers nearly 20 kilometers from the bridge of Arriondas to Ribadesella, bringing together canoeists from all over the world and thousands of spectators along the banks of the river.
The start of the festival 🛶
The day will begin with the opening ceremony in Arriondas, where the anthem of Asturias will be played. This year we will have a very special guest, as the Asturian footballer Santi Cazorla will be in charge of delivering the traditional proclamation in verse before the iconic cannon shot that kicks off the competition.
How to follow the race 🚂
If you want to experience the race from the inside, one of the most popular options is the River Train. This special service runs parallel to the Sella river and allows you to follow the pace of the canoeists from different points along the route.
As it is a high-demand service, we recommend you stay alert to purchase your tickets in advance as soon as they go on sale.
